Elysium by Stratovarius

-- Part 1 --
I've never felt like this before
Am I awake? Am I drifting?
There's a hole in the sky!
Am I alive? Did I survive?

In the first stanza, I come to the conclusion that the narrator might be Lucifer because that person seemed to have fell out of the sky thus creating a hole but it also represents Lucifer’s fall from heaven. In addition, the Lucifer fought a battle with God before his banishment so he’s wondering if he is alive.

Broken pictures on my wall
A story of fallen heroes
Now stare ahead with their blind eyes on
A lost horizon

Pictures could be memories of Lucifer’s past in heaven, which is broken after he rebelled against God. When the lyrics mention about a story of “fallen heroes”, it demonstrates Lucifer’s pride because he thought that his fallen angels were heroes who want to be rid of God’s tyranny. In the last two lines, the fallen angels and Lucifer is looking with blind eyes at a lost horizon because they are currently falling into the inferno and losing sight of heaven.

Sometimes the traces of life with you
Are clearer in my mind than ever

After experiencing his fall, Lucifer begins to recall memories of his past in heaven, which is hinted in the words “traces of life with you” and “clearer in my mind than ever” because good memories tend to be remembered more clearly.

(Chorus A)
I'm reaching this feeling
It's misleading me away from you
Tonight, I find what I've been searching for
You can reach for my wings once more
I'm not afraid anymore
I'm not afraid anymore

In this stanza, Lucifer emphasizes his jealously of God’s power, which lead him to his banishment from God in order to prove to God that he regret the decisions he made. The reason Lucifer would do this is that he want to be with God once more as depicted in “You can reach for my wings once more” and “I’m not afraid anymore” to show that he does not fear God being an omnipotent individual.

Sometimes the dream is sublime with you
I feel in my mind in heaven

Lucifer is remembering in his dreams of a wonderful past in heaven depicted by a “sublime” dream with “you” which is God. These two lines describes Lucifer’s yearn to be back in heaven.

(Chorus A)
I am ready to fall
I'm not afraid anymore

Lucifer is prepared to face the consequences and not afraid of spending life in the inferno.
-- Part 2 --

I am lying on the frozen ground alone
I got lost on my way, my time is up
I'm gone!

I need to find the key

To eternal life and see
The joy, the smile,
The overwhelming love of your heart
Is what I need!

Give me a sign, and show me the way
To the sacred place!

This entire part before Chorus B signifies Lucifer’s loneliness being in hell as described in the first stanza where he is “lying on the frozen ground alone” which relates to being frozen in the ninth circle of the Hell. Then the rest of the lines demonstrate how Lucifer admitted that he lost his way to God and wants God to show him a sign so he can embrace the joys of heaven and the love of God once again.

(Chorus B)
I can hear you calling my name
From the distant skies
I am holding falling angels
In my arms

Your shadow lurking in the corner of my eye
I'm losing sense of what's real and what's a lie!

Lucifer is yearning and dreaming of redemption from his sins after admitting them in “I am holding falling angels” and hearing God calling his name in “I can hear you calling my name”. In the last two lines, it seems Lucifer is driven to almost madness from seeking redemption that he seemed to find God’s shadow lurking around and losing a sense of reality as depicted in the last line.

I need to find the key
To eternal life and see
The joy, the smile,
The overwhelming love of your heart
Is what I need!

Give me a sign, and show me the way
To the sacred place!

(Chorus B)

Eternal calling at your fame was not mine
Remedy this falling lie!

Lucifer realized that his powers does not match the powers of God and wants God to forgive his sins.

I feel it burning with me ahead
The earth is turning to red
I'm staring at the flaming skies
Too tired to fight
A chance (to) close my eyes

After his banishment to Hell, Lucifer is describing his journey there as “flaming skies” and “earth is turning to red”. From analyzing the last two lines, it seems that his will to oppose God has faded because he is too tired to fight and closed his eyes.
(Chorus B)

I am holding falling angels in my arms
-- Part 3 --

This life has been too long
There's hope everywhere I go

Do you believe in hope and faith
Or eternity?
In the end, you will see
Let this all be free

Eternal light
Blinded my eyes

Lucifer is talking about how his mighty powers symbolized by “Eternal light” blinded him into being jealous of God.

Feel no sorrow,
Joy will follow
Now lay down,
And rest in my arms

God is trying to calm Lucifer that if he have faith again, he will be saved and be able to stay with God as stated in “And rest in my arms”.

(Solo - Jens)

(Chorus C)
Do you believe in hope and faith
Or eternity?
In the end, you will see
Let your soul be free
Be afraid no more,
Just take my hand, I'll guide you through the storm
We're finally home

These last few lines seems to hint at Lucifer being able to have faith in God again and going back to heaven which is his home.

(Chorus C)

We're finally home
